CCSD Celebrates 2025 Outstanding ESOL Teacher, Student
The Cherokee County School District is celebrating its Exemplary English for Speakers of Other Languages Teacher of the Year and Exemplary English Learner Student of the Year!
The 2025 honorees are teacher Kerry Voytek of Teasley Middle School and Cherokee High School senior Deyvi Oxlaj Ixcoy. The Georgia Department of Education annually recognizes one outstanding ESOL teacher and English Learner student from each school district who meet high standards for teaching and learning. Congratulations to the honorees and thank you to our School Board for its continued investment in our ESOL program!
Deyvi, who will attend Kennesaw State University in the fall, earned the prestigious Lamp of Knowledge Award and is a member of the National Honor Society and First Generation Club. He volunteers at the school’s food pantry and uses his lunch period to tutor fellow English Learners.
Ms. Voytek is known for going above and beyond to support both students and colleagues. She’s praised for her expertise in integrating literacy and ESOL instructional strategies into science instruction, which is critical to help English Learners grasp challenging content while continuing to develop their language skills.
The Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools Mary Elizabeth Davis will recognize the honorees at an upcoming school board meeting.
